Riots Force S. Minneapolis KMart to Close Early
Updated: Jul 20
The vandalism and looting following George Floyd’s death accelerated KMart’s closing date.
Minneapolis, MN - Lake Street KMart, located about one and a half miles from where George Floyd was killed, was slated to close June 30th. The damages suffered from vandalism and looting following Floyd’s death forced the store to close one month early. This is KMart’s current condition until the building is eventually torn down.
As Kmart ends its run nationwide, the South Minneapolis location was still operating after nearly 50 years in the state of Minnesota.
