4/12/19 - A fun day at the Mall of America turned into a nightmare when 24 year old Emmanuel Deshawn Aranda suddenly grabbed 5 year old Landen and threw him from a third floor balcony at the mall in an attempt to take his life. According to Bloomington police, the boy landed on the first floor of the mall where he was treated by first responders. Thankfully, Aranda was arrested but Landen suffered life threatening injuries and had to be transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is still recovering.
On May 14th in Hennepin county district court, Aranda plead guilty to attempted premeditated first-degree murde. He was sentenced to 19 years in prison on June 3rd 2019.
Landen's parents recently provided this update via GoFundMe:
"We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the continued prayers and well wishes. They are working! Over the past several weeks, our son has suffered from non-life threatening complications from his injuries which have required additional procedures to correct. He is recovering, and his spirit is strong - but there is still a long road ahead. We are thankful to Jesus for lifting us up and providing ongoing healing. We continue to ask for your prayers and greatly appreciate your respect for our privacy during this difficult time."
