House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Confirmed Friday Night that Rep. Lewis passed away.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Georgia Congressman John Lewis has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 80.
Lewis, a Democrat, served 17 terms in the House of Representatives, representing Georgia’s 5th congressional district since 1987.
Pelosi confirmed Lewis’ death saying “Today, America mourns the loss of one of the greatest heroes of American history: Congressman John Lewis, the Conscience of the Congress.”
