#BoycottHomeDepot Trends on Twitter Monday Night
Updated: Jul 11, 2019
Billionaire Home Depot Co-Founder Bernie Marcus's plan to donate to the Trump campaign set Twitter on fire Monday 7/8/19.
Billionaire Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus plans on donating 80-90% of his $4.55 billion fortune to charitable causes when he dies. 90 year old Marcus was one of Donald Trump's most generous donors in 2016, giving $7 million to support Trump's campaign. The billionaire told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that he plans to financially support President Trump's 2020 bid for re-election. While Marcus criticized Trump saying he thought he "sucked at communication" he also noted that the President deserved praise for boosting employment, holding China accountable and taking action with Iran and North Korea.
The Atlanta-based billionaire has a net worth of $4.55 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. Marcus co-founded Home Depot in 1978. Marcus was the company's first CEO and retired in 2002.
Although Marcus has been a vocal Trump supporter for several years now, Monday night, as liberal Trump haters fumed over news that Bernie Marcus was donating to Trump's campaign again, #BoycottHomeDepot began trending on Twitter. Interestingly enough, one quick scroll can tell you, the trending hashtag has brought it's fair share of support for Trump and Home Depot to match the hate from the left.
A representative for Home Depot told MarketWatch that Marcus retired more than 15 years ago and he “isn’t speaking on behalf of the company” and “In fact, as a standard practice, the company does not endorse presidential candidates." Yet liberal Twitter users still lost their minds.
